The Nederland Downtown Development Authority (DDA), under guidance from the Nederland Board of Trustees, is undertaking the pedestrian pathway and drainage project on Second St., nicknamed “NedPeds.”
The NedPed project (also known as the “Nederland Pedestrian Enhancement Design and Nederland Pedestrian Transportation and Storm Water Management Improvement Project”) is intended to make improvements to our non-motorized transportation system while at the same time addressing issues in the town’s storm water management system.
Project Updates
2016
The Board approved on July 7, 2015 to move forward with design changes
proposed by F&D International, owner’s representatives hired for the project. After
rebidding this fall, the Town received one proposal. The Board accepted the bid and
approved award of contract at a special meeting on Oct. 13, 2015. The Board approved
the contract at its Feb. 16, 2016 meeting. The project is scheduled for kick off this spring and completion in the early summer. When a more detailed schedule is prepared, it will be shared with the Board and project
neighbors.
2015
Due to the increases in construction costs over the last few years no bids came in on budget and a request for addtional from from the Department of Local Affairs was turned down. An owners representative was hired for the project and took on the project of restructuring the project and materials to make it more doable within the current budget. The project went back out to bid and a bid was accepted in December.
6/15/14
After no bidders on the project in the spring of 2014, possibly due to the amount of flood repair work projects available, NedPeds will go back out to bid January 2015 for construction in spring/summer 2015.
12/31/13-
The NedPeds project received final approval from the Nederland Downtown Development Authority and Planning Commission towards the end of the year and will be going before the Board of Trustees on January 21st for their final approval. There are still comments pending from CDOT that will need to be addressed, and if any are substantive the project will have to be brought back before the boards. If, as expected, the changes are minor, the project will move forward as approved to bid and then bid out at the most advantageous date for a Spring timeline to break ground (once the soil thaws).

The NedPeds project is moving forward and looking for your input. A set of criteria have been developed and we are asking for your help to rank them in the order you would like to see given the most importance for the project. The survey results will be sorted and used to inform design decisions for the project as it moves from Schematic Design to making the decisions around things like materials, design details, and overall project goals. The survey will be open until the end of Monday January 29th, you are encouraged to add your own criteria as well as any comments. THE SURVEY IS CLOSED thank you for taking part in the civic conversation and design of your town and stay tuned for more updates as the design progresses.
